Purchase your shirt by Wednesday!! Rescue Chicago is excited to announce our partnership with this year's Chicago Rescue Day. Chicago Rescue Day was created to bring local rescue groups together to relieve the stress of overpopulation at Chicago city shelters.

Last year, more than 30 organizations came together to pull 157 cats and dogs from city shelters.

This year's Rescue Day is actually Rescue Week to comply with social distance guidelines and to keep everyone as safe as possible. It will be held July 5-July 11, 2020.

Want to help? You can purchase a tee shirt or tank and all the proceeds will be split between the rescue organizations that participate! Link in bio!

Rescue Chicago will no longer be using the term "f

Rescue Chicago will no longer be using the term "freedom ride" to describe the transport of an animal out of a shelter.

As we listen and learn and consider ways that the rescue community in Chicago and beyond can become more inclusive and anti-racist, the phrase "freedom ride" is one of the first things that came to our minds.

Historically, “freedom rides” describe coordinated efforts of civil rights activists throughout 1961. Freedom Riders wanted to draw attention to a recent federal law that declared segregation on interstate travel unconstitutional, a law that was largely ignored in Southern states. The first Freedom Ride was on May 4, 1961 from Washington DC to New Orleans. Riders met police resistance and mob brutality throughout their journey, calling international attention to how violence was used to enforce segregation and how little was done to carry out federal anti segregation laws.

Happy birthday to Rescue Chicago co-founder @midge_madge! Margaret is our glue and we’re pretty sure she’s the reason people work with us. She’s the nicest woman and works so hard to help so many dogs regardless of breed, medical, or behavioral qualities. We love you Margaret!

Meet adoptable Resolution (Rez)!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We first met Rez at @chicagoanimalcare where she arrived the day after Christmas as a stray. Rez waited and searched for her people but they never came for her. At first she was scared and shy but eventually she showed everyone how smart and fun she is! Our friends at @all_life_is_valuable_nfp saved Rez and she completed a board & train. Then the wonderful @kwoto stepped up to be her foster!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rez is now ready for her forever home! Rez is sweet and sassy lady with a great personality. She loves a good head scratch, showing off her athletics, and napping in the sun. She is equal parts perky adventurer and lazy couch potato. She walks great on a leash and is willing to learn new tricks of treats are involved in the equation. She’s thought to be a cattle dog/pitbull mix and has the best ears!

While she needs to be an only pet, she’ll give you enough love that you don’t NEED any other pets! Her ideal home is in the suburbs with a privacy-fenced yard but she’s doing well in her foster home which is in a quiet area of the city without a lot of dogs and a foster who is experienced with reactive dogs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Giving Tuesday Now is a new global day of giving that is taking place today, May 5, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

Rather than fundraising for ourselves, Rescue Chicago will be matching up to $500 in donations to Chicago area animal rescue and welfare organizations.

Matches will be made until 11:59pm CST tonight, or until we run out of money. Maximum donation of $100 per organization.

ONE YEAR AGO, we launched Rescue Chicago with a mi

ONE YEAR AGO, we launched Rescue Chicago with a mission of helping people get involved with animal rescue while also creating programs to better support city shelters and rescues. We thought now would be a good time to reflect on the things we’ve done together in the last year and talk about some of the things we are hoping to accomplish next!

In the past year, we launched the following major programs & initiatives: - Started Chicago Animal Shelter Transporters who have transported hundreds of animals out of shelters
- Supplied martingale collars and leashes to
Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) adopters
- Provided supplies for CACC’s Doggy Day Out Program
- Partnered with Kong Cares to purchase hundreds of Kongs for canine enrichment at CACC
- Launched our Volunteer Match and Foster Match surveys to help people get involved
- Started the Retractable Leash Trade-In Program to help keep our pets safe on walks
- Began our Rescue Sessions workshop series covering topics like Compassion Fatigue, Canine Enrichment, First Aid, and Canine Communication
- Set up the COVID relief program to aid families in the first month of the pandemic

Here is what we are working on now:
- Sustaining and building upon all existing programs
- Bringing educational content online to provide fosters and volunteers with continued support during this time (coming soon!)
- Gathering resources to help fosters and rescues transition to life after Shelter in Place ends
- And more!

In the past 5 days, we had 113 people fill out our foster matching survey(!!!) Which means 113 people wanted to help our local homeless animals. One of those amazing humans is Ashley who is now fostering this smiley girl Betty for @onemoredogrescue. Have you ever seen a smile that big!? If we’re being honest, when the Coronavirus became serious, in Chicago, we were terrified about what it would mean for our homeless pets. But, tough times show us what the human spirit can do and this is no exception. Because of you, we have a full free row of kennels (we’ve never seen this before!!). So thank you to the 113 (and many many more) people who saw what was happening and said, nope, not today and did something about it. Thank you to all the fosters, rescues, adopters, volunteers, donors, and staff getting this done. Chicago we love you ❤️

Our COVID-19 Pet Assistance program has already he

Our COVID-19 Pet Assistance program has already helped 18 families with food and other essential supplies! Thanks to many generous donors, we have been able to fulfill 100% of supply requests and will continue to do so until we run out of funds.

Good news! SO many people are stepping up to foste

Good news! SO many people are stepping up to foster right now that we wanted to stop by with more specifics from rescues about their foster needs. At this time, Chicago area rescues need fosters who are willing to foster medium and large dogs (40lbs+) and can foster long term. Alternately, rescues need homes with no other pets. If we haven’t gotten back to you it’s because you don’t fit this criteria and we will keep your info for the future! Here are some other ways you can help:
-Share adoptable animals on your social media accounts - rescues need adopters as much as fosters right now!
-Send rescues items they need from their amazon wishlists.
-Check in with people in your community who have pets and might need some extra help right now. -Donate to local rescues who are actively getting animals out of shelters.

CACC RESCUE SUPPORT PROGRAM

Rescue Chicago will donate $100 EACH for the next TWENTY PIT BULL TYPE DOGS pulled from Chicago Animal Care and Control
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to qualify, the dog must be an adult bully breed that has been at the shelter for seven days or more. Rescues must be approved Homeward Bound partners. Rescues that pull for other non-approved HB partners or are pulling for adopters do not qualify.

The dog(s) must leave CACC by Sunday 3/22 at 7pm. Donations will be processed shortly thereafter. Your rescue CAN receive multiple donations if you pull multiple dogs. To claim your donation, please DM us.

We had such a blast last night at our latest Rescu

We had such a blast last night at our latest Rescue Sessions Workshop about Canine Communication with the talented Caragh from @wellnessandwags! We loved learning new ways to understand and connect with our dogs and how to help relieve dogs in shelters of stress and anxiety. Huge thank you to @wellnessandwags and @firecat_projects for making this event happen. Due to interest, we will likely repeat this one again soon. If you have any ideas for an upcoming Rescue Session Workshop - let us know!

Last week, we held our self-care event for animal

Last week, we held our self-care event for animal rescue staff, volunteers, and fosters. A huge thank you @cannabellalux for hosting us! Attendees were able to relax with massages donated by @nataliebeingyoga_andbodywork and @chicago_healing_massage as well as Reiki work donated by @reiki_is_love_. The event featured cookies from @alittlefrostingbakeshop, cake and wings from @chicagodiner, wine from @livelikeroofoundation, and water from @napahills. We also learned more about compassion fatigue and provided some anxiety-reducing activities. One of Rescue Chicago’s goals is to support our community, we are looking forward to continuing to provide these types of events in the future!

We are proud to announce our partnership with @taskcause, which launched today! TaskCause has created an innovative new way to give back to your favorite causes! Giving By Doing helps connect individuals with tasks that give back to the community. For example, mowing a lawn or walking a dog could earn money for Rescue Chicago or any of their other partners. The TaskCause app is now available - spread the word!
